As the cases of Coronavirus continue to grow around the world, and more countries close their borders to prevent the spread of Covid-19, many people are asking whether or not CBD could help fight Covid-19?

The short answer at this time is no. CBD can’t cure Covid-19, and as of the time of writing, there are no cures or vaccines for the Coronavirus pandemic that’s sweeping across the globe. One of the most effective ways to help prevent the spread of Covid-19 is to follow basic hygiene rules such as washing your hands, maintaining safe distances from other people, and avoiding people that are exhibiting flu-like symptoms.

So, what can CBD do? Cannabinoids such as cannabidiol (CBD) have shown a lot of potentials to do a variety of different things inside our bodies. Cannabinoids do this by binding with receptors in the Endocannabinoid System (ECS). Cannabinoids act like the ‘eyes and ears’ of cells by reporting on what’s happing and then prompting cells to respond.

There have been a variety of studies into CBD that show that it could have a lot of potentials to fight superbugs such as MSRA and also a variety of different fungal infections. There is still a lot more research that needs to be done into the effects of CBD and how it could potentially help with the treatment or prevention of viruses such as Covid-19.

It’s also very important to remember that cannabidiol can affect the cytochrome P450 enzymes in the liver. It’s these enzymes that are responsible for processing many of the pharmaceutical medications which we take. CBD can take attention away from other medications and cause the liver to process it slower or faster than recommended. Always speak to your doctor or healthcare provider if you’re currently taking any medication and using CBD.
